BBC sees Gaza aid inspection area at Israeli crossing

Date:

The BBC’s Wyre Davies visits a holding compound at the Israeli-controlled Kerem Shalom crossing, through which urgenaid for Gaza is currently passing after Israel eased an 11-week blockade.

The aid is being taken off Israeli lorries and inspected before being transferred onto lorries from Gaza.

Most of the aid is flour for the UN’s World Food Programme, which says it needs to bring in at least 100 lorries a day to meet the “very minimum” of the 2.1 million population’s food needs.

On Thursday, several WFP-supported bakeries resumed bread production after more than 90 lorry loads of aid were collected by UN teams inside Gaza, following a three-day delay over security concerns.
